Within the activities of the week of Global Leadership and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Laith Shaker Al-Qarawee, the Dean of the College of Engineering, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Muslim Mohsen Ali, Head of the Department, a session was held instructed by Professor Dr. Zuhair Jabbar and Assistant Professor Dr. Durgham Abdul Rahim Kazem.
Named (Electrical-Bio Signals Used in Prosthetic Limbs assistant equipment for People with Special Needs) was attended by the President of the University of Karbala, Professor Dr. Bassem Al-Saeedi, and the Administrative Assistant, Professor Dr. Akram Al-Yasiri.
The course aimed to introduce biological signals, or vital signals, which are the signals extracted in a specific place or time for a biological event, whether it is movement of the teeth or any other activity of the human body, such as the brain thinking about a specific action, the heartbeat, or the activity of contracting and relaxing muscles. The mechanism of the body’s production of these bio-electrical signals was discussed biologically, and the methods and tools used to extract them from the human body for analysis. The course also dealt with ways to benefit from these signals to describe the motor pattern of the limbs of the human body, whether upper or lower.
The course recommended examining how to employ these bio-electrical signals in designing smart prosthetic limbs in order to develop the product to be a pioneering product for people with special needs.
